Maritime Logistics
The Group ventured into a new business segment in 2008 with the establishment of SAAG Shipping (M) Sdn. Bhd (SSSB). The Company is involved in the ownership and management of ships and tankers and will also provide an area of support to the O&G industry that is not currently supported by the Group by way of operations of Anchor Handling Tugs (AHT), supply vessels, crew boats etc.
SSSB has built a 7000 DWT product tanker. SSSB's competitive edge lies in its experienced management team, its first class qualification of sea-based personnel and its in-depth knowledge in vessel operations. The safe operations of vessel s and the protection of the environment are some of the Company's main concern. |

In 1992, MARPOL (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships) was amended to make it mandatory for tankers of 5,000 dwt and above - ordered after 6 July 1993 - to be fitted with double hulls and the phase out plan for single hulls to be limited to the year 2010. The double hull construction of tankers offers a state of the art standard to environmental protection.
To this end, SSSB makes no compromises on safety and environmental protection rules.
Shore and sea staff is chosen after a stringent interview process to ensure the best are chosen for the operations of the vessels.
Officers and the crew are interviewed in person to ensure competency despite their mandatory IMO Qualifications. Prior to engaging them, all candidates must be familiarized with their ship even before they go on board.
Because SSSB pays importance to personnel development, in-house trainings are conducted. This includes tanker familiarization, advance tanker safety, maritime claims, social responsibility, bridge team management.
The courses are also conducted on board the vessel to further enhance the knowledge of pre-qualified officers and crew. |
